in two words: mindblowing shit!
Take a walk on the star trails - a wonderful video by Christoph Malin, an outdoor journalist and photograher. Malin, who specializes in time-lapse photography, took images from the International Space Station provided by NASA and animated them with basic editing software. While the movie is creating trails, the individual photographs used for stacking are of single point stars. Usually, you can get away with medium ISO and longer exposure times without creating trails, but the fast movement of the ISS dictated faster shutter speed and using higher ISO which resulted in a large number of hot spots.
